An active and prominent member of DMK party, Thalikottai Raju Baalu fondly known as T. R. Baalu is an MP of Lok Sabha from the Sriperumbudur constituency. T R Baalu was born in Thalikottai in Thiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu. He joined Dravidra Munetra Kazhagam a popular political outfit in the state at the age of 18. Subsequently he became the Secretary of Chennai City District unit of DMK in 1982.
He is a member of Lok Sabha of India for five times 1996. He served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Cabinet Minister of Environment and Forests, Minister of Shipping and Road Transport and Highways, Chairman of the Department Related Standing Committee of Parliament of the Ministry of Railways . He now serves as the Treasurer of DMK, elected unopposed on 3rd September 2020. T.R. Baalu is a five term MP in Lok Sabha, representing the same party, DMK. He was the Leader of DMK Parliamentary Party during the 15th Loksabha and 17th Lok Sabha. Baalu has been jailed for over 20 times.
