Shin Joon-Sup is a former South Korean middleweight boxer and 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist. in Joon-sup is the fifth most famous South Korean athlete, with an HPI of 37.57. Shin began boxing at age 16 and joined the South Korean national boxing team in 1983. He won a silver medal at the King's Cup Boxing and a gold medal at the 1983 Boxing World Cup. He won the 1984 Olympic gold medal in the middleweight division, beating Virgil Hill in the final. He retired from boxing after the 1986 Asian Games to focus on his studies. Shin was one of the many Korean fighters who dominated the international boxing scene in the 1970s and 1980s. His accomplishments helped make Korea a major name in boxing. As of 2018, Shin Joon-sup is the head coach of a boxing organization in Namwon. He was previously an assistant coach for the South Korea national boxing team in 1992.
