Maria do Céu Whitaker Poças, known professionally by the mononym Céu, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter whose first American album was released on the Six Degrees Records label in April 2007. Ceu started performing carnival music in her late teens and later moved to New York City. There, she met Pinto, who then teamed up with Villares to help her record her album. Her debut album reached number one on Billboard's Heatseeker and World Music charts, and number 57 on the Billboard 200 Best Selling Album chart. Vagarosa reached number two on the US Billboard's World Music charts. She has been nominated for eight Grammys and won three Latin Grammys. Her debut album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary World Music Album in 2008. Her second album, Vagarosa, was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album in 2010. Her albums Tropix (2017) and Apka! (2020) won three Latin Grammys. She is excited to return with her upcoming album Um Gosto de Sol on November 12, 2021 on Urban Jungle Records/Warner Music.
